E.J. and Ricky

Caswen is the friendship pairing between E.J. Caswell and Ricky Bowen. They are portrayed by Matt Cornett and Joshua Bassett.

History[]

Ricky Bowen and E.J. Caswell first met sometime before the events of Season 1. In The Auditions, on the first day of school Ricky sees E.J. with Nini Salazar-Roberts. Ricky tells his best friend Big Red that his ex Nini is dating E.J. hinting that he already knew who E.J. is. At first Ricky and E.J. were not fond of each other due to E.J. dating Nini, Ricky’s ex-girlfriend. E.J. even went as far as stealing Nini’s phone in order to gain knowledge of Ricky’s intentions. Ricky had also hit E.J. in the nose with a basketball out of anger. However, during the later episodes, (Episode 7 to be specific) Ricky and E.J. put their past behind them and even became friends. E.J. shows obvious concern for Ricky that he does not show with anyone else besides Nini, his ex. For example, in Act 1, when Ricky decides that he’s not good enough to play Troy, and anxiously tells E.J. that he’ll have to go on, E.J. gently asks him if everything’s alright. E.J. doesn’t show emotion very often, which makes his interactions with Ricky even more significant.

Sometime after the events of Second Chances, E.J. invites his friends from the drama club to go with him to summer camp at Camp Shallow Lake. E.J. invited Ricky to come with him to Camp Shallow Lake but Ricky had other plans with Lily. In Happy Campers, Ricky decides to go to camp last minute after he found out Lily was the one that stole his harness on Opening Night for Beauty and the Beast. After the musical announcement Ricky shows up to camp and sees E.J. and Gina are talking and ask them if they want a group hug.

Ricky tries to attack Channing and Corbin Bleu when they come in The Yurt Locker early in the morning and E.J. tries to stop him from attacking them by holding him back.
E.J. and Ricky were both put on The Blue Team for the Color War.
Ricky makes a joke that makes E.J.'s girlfriend Gina laugh and E.J. points out that Gina hasn't laugh at his jokes since Wednesday.
Ricky covers E.J.'s eyes and takes him to The Barn to surprise him with the romantic date Ricky helped Gina set up for her and E.J.
