Gina tells Jack she hasn't done well with the no-string confession (with Ricky) and he suggests the trick is to care less (with E.J).
Gina says that right guy has to show up and stay around, setting the groundwork for her season 3 love triangle.

The Transformation[]

Gina thinks there's nothing romantic for her and E.J. as she thinks she's been wrong before with Ricky.
Ricky finds out from Carlos that E.J. has feelings for Gina.
Ricky asks if E.J. doesn't want to ask Gina out because he's graduating.
E.J. and Gina both chuckle while watching Ricky playing the beast.

Showtime[]

E.J. humours "more chocolates" to Gina, showing he's learnt about her previous joke with Ricky.

Second Chances[]

Gina refers to both E.J. and Ricky in her verse during Second Chance.
Only them three sing the last lyric of Second Chance, "a second chance is all".
The future love triangle is foreshadowed throughout Second Chance.

Season 3[]

Happy Campers[]

Gina, Ricky and E.J. refer to their summers as firsts, second chances and lasts respectively.
Just as E.J. and Gina say that nothing and no one will become between them, Ricky appears in a shot between them.
Ricky looks back-and-forth between E.J. and Gina as he asks if there's room for another at Camp Shallow Lake.
Gina awkwardly chuckles to E.J. in reaction to Ricky's last-minute attendance, and E.J. seems to also react uncomfortably.

Into the Unknown[]

Gina wanted her and E.J. to play the leads to bring romance into showmance, but Ricky would end up getting casted as her romantic interest.
E.J. asks Gina about Ricky showing up but she quickly changes the subject.
Ricky is trying to be friendly with E.J. when he goes to Val, Gina seems jealous while Ricky is a tad saddened.

The Woman in the Woods[]

Gina overhears Ricky ask E.J. to join him to look for a shrine and wants to join them, but E.J. declines going himself as he's busy.
Ricky tells Gina that he's proud she's playing the lead role and excites her, while earlier E.J. got distracted by his stress to fully listen to Gina's happy-rant about playing Anna.
E.J. finds out from Carlos that Ricky and Gina went into the woods just them two anyways.
E.J. didn't put his folder down when Gina wanted to hang out earlier but finally did when he got jealous of her and Ricky.

No Drama[]

E.J. in petiness brings up Gina going to the woods with Ricky in front of everyone.
E.J. apologises to Gina about not going with her and Ricky last night and she says that it would've been more fun with him.
Ricky is seen staring at E.J. and Gina as they talk.
Ricky suggests he could sing with Gina but E.J. says that he should stay in his lane, getting a weird look from Gina.
Ricky watches as E.J. and Gina perform Love is an Open Door together.
Ricky says Gina's "amazing" before correcting himself and saying that E.J. is too, before leaving the room.
E.J. catches Ricky and Gina playing around, gets jealous and sad, and walks away. Neither saw him.
E.J. tells Val in sarcasm that Gina is too busy with Ricky to confide in about his father.
Ricky overhears as Gina tells E.J. she doesn't "do well with liars" and leaves while E.J. also shows guilt.

The Real Campers of Shallow Lake[]

Carlos gives E.J. and Ricky a scenario where Ricky is the jilted-ex to Gina.
Playing into the scenario, Ricky tells E.J. that he stole Gina from him, alluding to how Gina had feelings for Ricky first.
E.J. says that Gina's in love with him and Ricky slaps him for real, saying that he found his motivation.
Gina is to be mad at E.J. in this scenario and use her ex Ricky to get back at him, but she's also mad at E.J. for real for not communicating.
Ricky and Gina perform What Do You Know About Love? while E.J. watches in his Sven costume.
E.J. notices the tension between Ricky and Gina in the bridge.
Gina tells E.J. and Ricky separately "don't get me started", E.J. asks if that's a threat while Ricky responds that it's a lesson he's learnt before.
Gina confides in Ricky about her relationship struggles with E.J.
E.J. sees Ricky and Gina walk in together.
E.J. asks Ricky why Gina is mad at him but Ricky lies in response as to why.

Color War[]

All three and Ashlyn are on the blue team in color wars.
Gina says to Ricky that she wants to win with E.J., but Ricky points out neither knew where E.J. was.
Gina laughs at Ricky's joke, according to E.J. she hasn't laughed at his own jokes since Wednesday.
Ricky tells E.J. that Gina is upset he missed her basketball triumph, Ricky also seems upset at E.J. on Gina's behalf.
Ricky helps Gina set up her promposal for E.J.
Ricky brings E.J. to Gina and watches as they smile together with sadness, but leaves knowing they're happy.

Camp Prom[]

E.J. and Ricky both stare in awe as Gina walks into prom and both say "wow" when she says hello.
Gina asks if Ricky's okay and E.J. follows, realising Ricky's attraction towards Gina, but Ricky lies saying it's about his clothes.
Gina asks E.J. to dance with her but he's busy with his prompts, upsetting her as Ricky notices.
Gina then asks Ricky if he wants to dance with her, but E.J. interrupts noticing Maddox on stage and Ricky leaves towards Jet.
E.J. promised Gina the last dance, but during Wouldn't Change a Thing (the final dance) Gina only sees Ricky.
Gina brings up how E.J. missed woman in the woods and the bucket list quest, but E.J. questions on both things relating to Ricky.
E.J. confirms to Gina that he knows there's history between her and Ricky.
E.J. and Ricky tell each other their night was weird, not knowing both were talking about Gina.
E.J. catches Ricky and Gina talkin the distance and both see him as he walks away.
Gina tells Ricky her and E.J. broke up, leading to Ricky quickly deciding not to confess to her that night.

Let It Go[]

Gina tells Ricky that it's over, he first thinks she's talking about them but realises she's talking about her and E.J.
Ricky stares at Gina after her and E.J. talk about his dad.
E.J. and Gina watch Ricky perform Kristoff Lullaby at opposite ends of the sidelines.
Ricky intentionally looks at Gina near the end of his performance at a lyric about love and change, and E.J. sees it.
E.J. tells Ricky and Gina they "all saw this coming", a minute after Gina says that she didn't.

Ricky tells Gina that someone commented he looks like "a rough draft of E.J." after the documentary released.

Admissions[]

Ricky confides to E.J. about his relationship and worries with Gina.
E.J. admits letting go of Gina was hard but she was happy and Ricky is like a brother to him, so he accepted.
E.J. tells Ricky that he won't forgive him if he hurts Gina.
Ricky agrees to take E.J.'s advice to not run away from Gina, emotionally and physically.
E.J. jokes that Ricky kept stealing his girlfriends, referring to Nini and Gina.
Ricky leaves a voicemail to E.J. after seeing Gina and Mack through her window.

Night of Nights[]

Gina tells E.J. about her new movie in New Zealand and how she hasn't told Ricky.

Born to Be Brave[]

Ricky asks E.J. if he knew about Gina's new movie, and E.J. tells him that she didn't want to ruin his night.
After Gina leaves for her press conference, Ricky tells E.J. that he didn't get to tell Gina he loved her.
E.J. comforts Ricky about Gina and asks if he still has his guitar he gifted Ricky in Admissions.
Ricky sings Love You Forever to Gina with E.J.'s guitar, E.J. is seen happy for them in the background.

Their love triangle was the second one E.J. and Ricky had been in together, the first being Ricky, Nini and EJ.
Their love triangle was the second one Ricky and Gina had been in together, the first being Gina, Ricky and Nini.
Gina told Ricky she doesn't do anything right the first time months before E.J. would become her first kiss and boyfriend.
The three had many scenes of just them together throughout Season 3, unlike the other love triangles of the series.
Joshua, Sofia and Matt sung a trio version of Love is an Open Door at D23 2022.
All three had duets with each other.
Their love triangle had parallels to Dawson, Joey and Pacey as well as Anna, Kristoff and Hans.
All three have a wavering relationship with one of their parents (Terri, Lynne and Cash) and have lived away from them at some point.
